Breaking Ground!

Oakwood has finally broken ground on our house!!! I don't think I've told the story of or house hunt on here yet so here it goes...

We started looking at houses casually in December of 2014. Sometime a few months later we were getting a better grasp on how much we could buy and we started looking harder. It seemed like there was nothing on the market that had the things we were looking for. We walked through a few homes but didn't love them.

In late winter sometime we found a house we really loved and put an offer on it. They didn't take it so we countered even higher, we wanted it bad! They seemed like they were going to accept, but instead suddenly told us they decided to take their house off the market. We were so bummed!

We kept looking for awhile, but finally decided we probably weren't going to find what we really wanted because we are too darn picky! So we decided to build. So then we started driving around and checking out different builders. We walked through a model by Oakwood homes and loved it so much we almost made an offer above and beyond our budget. We changed our minds in the end because the home was right next to a really busy street.

We eventually decided to build with Oakwood. That is a complicated story where we wanted to build in their community west of the freeway but with a plan they only used in their community east of the freeway (but why???). We finally talked them into building a plan we liked at their west community (Monument Park) called the Copenhagen. We had a meeting and signed papers for that and made an offer. Awhile later they came back and said never mind they wouldn't build that plan (again, but why???).

Another little while later they came back and said, but we have a very similar plan that we will build over there (hooray!)  but then we discovered that they would not build the living room with the loft that opens to below (but why???). We moved forward on it anyway, feeling a bit bummed out. And then a little while later they said never mind the open to below is now standard for this plan! (Hooray! But also, what the?)

So finally we picked a lot, we had a great layout (The Hayden) and we started moving forward! This was sometime in like July or August? We went to all our meetings and laboriously picked out all our finishings and now about a whole month after finishing that, we have a hole in the ground!

Fewf! And also, woohoo!!

We can't wait to have our new house finished! They predict it to take about 4 months, but as we have all seen, their track record for follow through is bad. So fingers, toes, and nose hairs crossed we will have a finished house in early March!
